Josef Mengele is one of the most infamous figures of the Holocaust. 

His service at Auschwitz and the medical experiments he conducted there have made him the most widely recognised perpetrator of the crimes committed at that camp.

Mengele eluded arrest for 34 years and was never brought to justice.
