Last spotted on Pets with his ‘Collapsed’ EP just over a year ago, London’s Joseph Ashworth continues to furrow his own unique, deep, soul-laden path. Having treated Needwant, Anjunadeep and Made Of Concrete to his touching, molten dynamics since his previous Pets outing, he has returned to Catz N Dogz' label HQ with another selection of soul-stirring late night grooves.

‘Sienna’ stirs more than just the soul; a classically-trained house cut, it will move you physically and emotionally as it oozes feeling with every chord flurry and delicate layer of instrumentation, rising and rising with a poignant uplift. Think AME, think Chandler, think Schwarz… Think truly timeless emotional dancefloor music.

‘Vitamins’ is equally alluring and smouldering as it takes an unhurried slow-burn build, easing in a raw, grainy and ultimately feel good piano hook that’s London, Berlin and New York in precision measures. Filtered, chugging, unrelenting; once again it’s a powerful hit of feel-good with all the hallmarks of longevity.

Pets invited fellow countryman Earth Trax to remix ‘Sienna’. Considering sienna is an earth pigment, it’s a clever connection before you even get to his tripped out deconstruction, where horns are melted into wavy textures and the organs sound like keys from outer space. Finally Joseph ties it all together with a more restrained twist on ‘Vitamins’ where the piano hook steps back to allow the subtle, hip-slinking percussive elements to take the lead.

Four tracks, each one tailored for a different chapter of the night, but all precision timed for the warmer months ahead… Singular, soulful and genuinely special. Joseph and Pets have done it again.
