Josh Temple from HGTV’s House Crashers – EP 117
This week on the Dad Spotlight we had the chance to talk with Josh Temple, who you may know from HGTV, being the host of House Crashers, Beach Flip and a number of other great home improvement shows. Father of two, a 12 year old daughter and 4 year old son. Josh Temple started in construction work in 1993. Walked into the company and also started improv work. Someone asked him to do a commercial and he enjoyed this. He found that he was making more in acting then in being a project manager, so moved to LA to start his career. He told us the story of being at his son’s pancake breakfast and having to be the DIY electrician, thus a father’s work never ends! Josh Temple does not consider himself a celebrity, but looking at the 250+ episodes that he created for HDTV he understand that people now know of him because of the number of shows that he has created. About five years Josh Temple did a House Crash and Boys Town asked him to come out to their town to do a promo. He found himself drawn to the mission of this amazing location which has been in existence for 100 years. If you do not know Boys Town, kids are sent there to help solve the problems that these kids have. Kids tend to stay on average about 1.5 years. Once Josh Temple toured the town, he found that the kids’ opportunities are limited. He talked to the people about developing a trade school. He set up a construction class, a small engine class and more to give kids opportunities past high school. Trade Life was developed from all of this. He has had some amazing companies donate tools to help train the kids. Trade Life is not just about the training though it is about mentoring too, helping kids to stay on the right path and not slip back into old ways.
