Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, and Tara Reid star in this pre-9/11 musical comedy as the cat ear-wearing mega-label pop band Josie and the Pussycats. Although the film is based on the comic of the same name from the Archie Universe, the plot is thoroughly early-naughts featuring a cameo from Carson Daly (then engaged to Reid) and a satirical boy band impersonating The Backstreet Boys. Over-the-top villains played by Alan Cumming and Parker Posey bring the high-camp drama to what fashions itself as a light-hearted teen flick but delivers so much more. The hosts discuss the film's critique of rampant consumerism that trudges over artistic talent as well as the possible reasons the film performed poorly at the box office.
