Journalism and Emotions

Listen Later

This is the podcast version of a vlog (available on YouTube, recorded July 8, 2020), featuring a seminar on the various roles emotions play in journalism, featuring Karin Wahl-Jorgensen (Cardiff University), Johana Kotišová (Masaryk University) and Charlie Beckett (POLIS@LSE), hosted by Mark Deuze (University of Amsterdam).

We specifically discuss emotional literacy as a key competence for journalists, how emotional authenticity and storytelling can establish trust and compassion between journalists and audiences, and how the still dominant emotional regime and culture of journalism makes emotions at time difficult to process and (especially) express as a professional.
