Gyrls In The H.O.O.D (Healthy, Optimistic, Outstanding,Determined) Foundation mission is to improve reproductive health outcomes amongst adolescent females residing in urban areas considered “hood” and to redefine negative stereotypes placed on gyrls based on their zip code. We’ve created a safe space for gyrls to receive comprehensive, medically accurate, age appropriate sex education in a non judgment zone. Through our community partners we’ve been able to provide Pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted infections screenings, and clinic visits for treatment to many of Chicago’s youth. Gyrls In The H.O.O.D Foundation signature program, “Degrees B4 Diapers” has been implemented at NEIU, Ombudsman School, Woodson Library, etc. In addition to being featured on Windy City Live, WCIU-TV, Iheart Radio, Chicago’s Woman Magazine, True Star Magazine and more. Our “She’s So H.O.O.D” Award Showcase highlights teen gyrls who are excelling despite their circumstances. Past program participants have received, stipends, free shoes from DTLR, trip to Washington DC, Six Flags outings, bus cards, textbooks purchased, school fees paid, etc. The most important thing that they receive is the knowledge and support to make good decisions regarding their reproductive health.
