There was a time when leaving the Philippines meant packing not just your bags, but your entire life into a few brave decisions. No step-by-step guides, no YouTube vlogs—just hope, instinct, and a quiet prayer that everything would somehow work out. From our journey through Singapore in 2001 to finally settling in Australia in 2008, we carried with us the same dreams many Filipinos still have today: a better future for our family, even if it meant starting from zero. Years later, sitting down with our guests - millennial couples, Anj and Aster, now building their lives in New Zealand, we realized that while the tools and pathways may have changed, the heart of the migrant story remains the same—full of sacrifice, courage, and resilience.
What makes it even more special is seeing how different generations walk similar paths in their own ways. We laugh at how we used to figure things out “bahala na,” while they come prepared with a little research, online groups, and spreadsheets—but the struggles? Pare-pareho lang. Homesickness, starting over, finding your place in a new country. And yet, through all the challenges, there’s a shared truth that connects us all: it’s never easy, but it’s always worth it. Because in the end, migration isn’t just about where you go—it’s about who you become, and the life you build for the people you love.
