Is joy something people want? It is. Is joy something people can see in those who have it? I’m pretty sure that’s “yes”, too. As we live in God’s joy, His joy will overflow from us to others. No kidding. Today’s excerpt from Joy to Your World! is from pages 15 and 16:
“The joy Jesus brings to the world flows from the truth and grace of God, the truth about sin and salvation, and the grace to overcome the former and bestow the latter. We have joy because we know the truth that sets us free from the Lie of thinking we know better than God how we ought to live (cf. Rom. 1.18ff). We have joy because we know only grace is sufficient to redeem and save us, and to keep and grow us in the experience of joy.
“And because we know truth and grace, and the joy these bring, we are urgent that our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and complete strangers should hear the truth, experience the grace and joy, and thus be piqued to receive the King and Bringer of Joy as their true and only hope.
“For a day is coming when He Who rules the world with truth and grace will judge all people by this same scepter. They who will not heed the truth and enter the grace will be lost in the Lie and the bitterness of self-absorption and death forever.
“We proclaim a King and Kingdom like nothing that can be known anywhere else – a King and Kingdom of joy.
“Joy to the world! The Lord is come!”
For reflection or discussion
1. When was the most recent time you experienced the joy of the Lord? What was that like? How did you express that joy?
2. Is it realistic to think that we should know God’s joy in the midst of our busy, daily lives?
Joy is coming to our world. And it is coming through people like you and I, who have come to know Jesus and the joy that attends living in His Kingdom. To whom will you proclaim that joy today? Send today’s podcast to a friend, then get together to discuss the questions we provided. You can order copies of Joy to Your World! from The Ailbe Bookstore.
