Joy is a natural medicine practitioner, a holistic health healer, a mother and an author. She is the great-great grand-daughter of an Ojibwe medicine woman. Kelvin is almost 88 and there are no signs that he is even close to slowing down. In 2001, he was told that he would have just a few years to live after a massive heart attack, but he barely references that. You can feel his joy and love of life radiating outward like the sun. In Kelvin’s words: “I will go to great lengths to keep my mental condition as active as possible, as cheerful and thankful as possible.”

Bailey is 15 but really close to turning 16. For her, joy is a pure, unadulterated “I don’t think it can get better than this. This is why we’re living.” But it’s not easy. At a very young age, Colin was forced to look inward at his life and dramatically change course. That fork in the road led him to be a Physician’s Assistant in neurosciences and neurosurgery. To him, the relationship between healthcare provider and patient requires a dynamic of trust and can blossom into an expansive, mutually impactful relationship for all parties. Moriah knew she was called to be a midwife at the age of 11; she is a practitioner of pre- and perinatal psychology, and she is a death doula - someone who supports those going through the death process. Her insights about the nature of human beings are guided by her role as a veil-walker, or one who is close to the invisible boundary separating the physical world of the living from the unseen realm of the dead or the divine.
