In this episode, meet Rich and Allene Young who host a virtual support group for grandparents raising grandchildren.
Rich and Allene Young live in Mount Airy, North Carolina. They have 3 adult sons and 7 grandchildren. They are raising one of their grandchildren, Sebellah, who they adopted in 2018. She has been in their care since she was 5 months old. Rich has been has worked in the field of Human Services for 35 years in ministry positions, a therapist, hospice chaplain, non-profit administrator and as an educator. He is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at Purdue University Global, teaching in the field of Human Services. Allene has a background in healthcare and has worked as a Healthcare professional in the areas of eating disorders and elder care. She was the Admissions Coordinator for a Skilled Nursing Facility 11 years. In 2019, they decided to initiate a downsizing plan that would allow them to move from Prescott, Arizona to Mount Airy, North Carolina. Their downsizing plan allowed Allene the opportunity to stay home full-time and devote more time to their family.
