For the Christian, contending for the faith is not an option, it is a command. Nothing has hurt the church more than the slow, subtle chokehold of false teaching that puts people into a spiritual slumber. The enemy still prowls around seeking whom he may devour. So believer, be watchful and on guard. Build yourselves up in the faith with a trowel in one hand and a sword in the other. Study the Word, know the Word, and be ready to contend for the faith with the Word. Let it saturate your life. As you contend, pray for discernment that you may be gentle to the one who is weak, but that you would leave the willful sinner without excuse. Mercifully call them both to the truth so that they might also trade in their sin-stained garments for the royal robes bought by the blood of the Lamb. And soldier, when you grow weary in the battle, be encouraged to know that you have a Commander that will strengthen you in the fight and present you victorious.
