In which Arabella, determined to restore a semblance of respectability, brings Jude into her father’s modest dwelling to care for him through his illness and debauchery, ultimately orchestrating a convivial gathering to revive his spirits. After some hesitant but earnest coaxing, the pair resolve to reaffirm their union in the eyes of the Church, much to the curious amusement and commentary of their motley company of neighbours.
