Police union: Investigate prosecutor who texted former top aide to Michelle Obama about Jussie Smollett
Chicago’s police union has demanded an investigation into Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx her text messages with Jussie Smollett’s family friends.
Before recusing herself from the case in mid-February, Foxx exchanged texts with Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff, Tina Tchen, a close friend of the Smollett family.
Tchen, 63, sent a text to Foxx three days after Smollett, an actor on television's "Empire," claimed he was the victim of a hate crime, saying that she wanted to set up a phone call to discuss the case.
“I wanted to give you a call on behalf of Jussie Smollett and family who I know. They have concerns about the investigation,” Tchen said in a text sent Feb. 3 before 5 a.m.
The Fraternal Order of Police called for an investigation into Foxx’s “interference” in Smollett’s case after Illinois state prosecutors announced they were dropping all 16 felony charges brought against Smollett for allegedly staging the attack against him.
