Judge Strikes Down Florida Voting Law

A federal judge in Florida ruled that sections of the state’s year-old election law were unconstitutional and racially motivated, and barred the state from making similar changes to its laws in the next decade without the approval of the federal government.

The election law created new hurdles for voters that made it harder for Floridians to take advantage of ballot drop boxes, imposed needless new restrictions on voter registration drives, and made it illegal to help voters (giving them water, for example) in line to vote.
