Judges 17-19 show Israel engaged in gross idolatry and immorality. There is no king in Israel. Everyone was doing what was right in their own eyes. There is flagrant rebellion. Open sin. No spiritual leadership and a nation in chaos.
God called Israel to be a holy nation, and their primary goal was to be a light to the nations around them and not to adopt the ways of the pagan Canaanites.
As we move into Chapter 20, we see the twelve tribes' response to the outrageous sin in Chapter 19.
Here is the central idea or main point of this chapter: You must deal with sin quickly before it gets out of control.
