Opener: What's your favorite book in the Old Testament and why?
What previous experience or preconceived notions do you have about the book of Judges? What detail(s) about the "Old Testament Timeline" stuck out or surprised you? Read 2:10-19. What do we learn about parenting? How do we ensure that the generations after us know the Lord and the work he has done for you and me? We may not have Baals and Ashtaroth; but what idols does our society serve? How can we avoid conforming in this way?God's discipline of the Israelites likely looks different than his discipline toward believers today. In what ways has God disciplined you in the past? How did you recognize it as discipline?Verses 18-19 describe a pattern of only doing what is right when they had a strong human leader. In what ways do we still struggle with that today? How do we avoid our faith being intertwined with a strong human leader/pastor/author/etc? Was there anything you learned that you thought was cool? Anything you hoped we would discuss? Anything you are looking forward to in this book?
