Judicial Hardening & Demonic Faith | John 12:35-43What happens when persistent unbelief exhausts the extravagant patience of God? In this sobering study of John 12:35-43, Pastor Nathan explores the "sunset" of God's patience with Israel and the difficult biblical reality of judicial hardening. While the Gospel is a message of lavish love and amazing grace for all who believe, Scripture warns that God’s patience—though long-suffering—is not eternal. Drawing from the prophecies of Isaiah, this message tackles the hard questions regarding God’s justice, human responsibility, and the danger of a "defective" or "demonic" faith—a faith that acknowledges the truth but refuses to confess Christ because it loves the glory of man more than the glory of God. In this message, we explore five "tent peg" truths to anchor our understanding:God is extravagant in His patience: His judgment is never a capricious outburst but a judicial decision following long periods of grace. Unbelief can be a judgment of God: When light is persistently rejected, God may eventually withdraw it, leaving individuals to the darkness they have chosen. The character of God is misrepresented by careless answers: Understanding the "withdrawal" of God helps us see that He does not manipulate innocent hearts, but rather gives the guilty what they have chosen. True belief is contrite and confessing: Saving faith involves a repentant heart that prioritizes God’s glory over human affirmation. Unbelief cannot defeat God’s purposes: Even in judgment, God is sovereignly working to gather a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation.
