Judson College was founded here in Marion in 1838 and unfortunately had to close its door in 2021.  However, the legacy left behind will always hold a special place in the lives of those girls that attended. Samford University was formerly Howard College, which was founded here in Marion in 1841. The campus was located on what is now Marion Military Institute.
