“Tell me Bean..” said Mayor Pete as he adjusted his bowtie in front of the vanity, “Me allying myself with this...Syndicate, how will it look to the public?” Mayor Pete’s lanky, young assistant Stringbean(a nickname that scored highest with the focus groups), scrambled to his feet, lanyard swaying.
“Well sir uh, you tell me, I mean you have the uh, well...You have the eye for it sir...'' Stringbean said this word, “eye” with a sort of reverence, uttering it barely above a whisper. Of course, Bean was correct to be in awe Mayor Pete thought, his new bionic eye(a gift from the chaps at the Syndicate) was something special after all, it allowed him to means test any policy, statement, or opinion in real time.
“Not the alliance you twit” said Mayor Pete, “The tie! I’m asking about the tie!”
“Oh...Oh!” said Stringbean “E-e-excellent sir, beyond reproach, m-marvelous-” Stringbean would have continued in this way, were it not for the knock and subsequent entrance of Dr. Boogedy.
“Forgive the intrusion Mayor, I have good news,” he said.
“Yes, yes, make it quick Boogedy, I have matters...”
“It’s JackAM sir, we’ve got them.” Dr. Boogedy replied and withdrew a cellphone from his lab coat. Mayor Pete snatched the phone and held it to his face smiling, reveling in the sounds he heard from within, Thunk-thunk-thunk came muted taps: sounds like floating ice against styrofoam walls.
“Help!” “Let us out!'' cried the two voices within: one male, one female, their little fists pounding hard against invisible walls, “Please, we’re trapped inside the phone!” Assessing the situation Mayor Pete’s bionic eye went wild, focusing and unfocusing, flicking rapidly in all directions, querying, calculating, surveying.
“Bean cancel the photo-op at the soup kitchen.” Mayor Pete said, “and call the league of showrunners, tell them we’ve got Raft and Allison.”
“Right away sir” Stringbean said and then scurried off.
Mayor Pete smiled, eye still going mad, revealing to him it's awful truths, “You” he said tapping the phone, “are really going to mobile-..ize my base!”
