A new report has found that mothers on the benefit should be allowed to earn more, before their welfare is cut.
It's also found childcare costs and inflexible workplaces are putting these women off going into work or education.
The government's working to overhaul the welfare system.
Minister for Women Julie Anne Genter told Mike Hosking if we want people to be better parents, things have to be made easier for solo mums.
"They're not going to be good parents, they're not going to be able to get into work and education if we don't change things".
