JULY 5 - When Jesus Steps In3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 19:12–13; Luke 5//3-Year Bible Devotional Book (Year Two) Available on Amazon//________________________________________“A king’s wrath is like the growling of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass. A foolish son is ruin to his father, and a wife’s quarreling is a continual dripping of rain.” — Proverbs 19:12–13 (ESV)“And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.’ And Simon answered, ‘Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.’” — Luke 5:4–5 (ESV)________________________________________Have you ever worked really hard on something—like studying for hours, practicing for a game, or giving your best to a project—only to feel like it didn’t pay off? That’s exactly where Simon Peter was in Luke 5. He had been fishing all night with nothing to show for it. Then Jesus stepped in and told him to try one more time, but this time with His direction. The result? Nets so full of fish they could barely handle it!Proverbs 19 reminds us that wisdom and obedience matter. Just as a king’s favor brings life, following God’s direction brings blessing and peace, even when things feel pointless. Simon’s story shows that our empty efforts can become overflowing success when we listen to Jesus and trust His timing.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Obedience in the Ordinary: Like Simon, have you ever felt like giving up? What might it look like to trust Jesus enough to “let down your nets” one more time (Luke 5:4–5)?2. Wisdom in Choices: Proverbs warns about foolishness leading to regret. How can you seek God’s wisdom before making choices so your life brings blessing instead of frustration (Proverbs 19:12–13)?3. God’s Timing Matters: How does Simon’s story remind you that success and peace often come when we follow God’s timing instead of our own?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEWhen you trust and obey Jesus—even when things seem hopeless—He can turn empty nets into overflowing blessings.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for caring about the moments when I feel tired or discouraged. Teach me to trust You enough to obey Your word, even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Help me to seek Your wisdom, follow Your timing, and believe that You can bring good from what feels empty. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
