JULY 6 - Choosing Rest Over Restlessness3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 19:14–15; Psalm 77; Luke 6//3-Year Bible Devotional Book (Year Two) Available on Amazon//________________________________________“House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord. Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.” — Proverbs 19:14–15 (ESV)“When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.” — Psalm 77:3–4 (ESV)“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them… is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.” — Luke 6:46–48 (ESV)________________________________________Ever felt exhausted but not the good kind—the kind where your mind is spinning, your to-do list is endless, and your soul feels restless? The writer of Psalm 77 knew what that felt like. He couldn’t sleep because his heart was so troubled. In Proverbs 19, we see the opposite problem—laziness that leads to emptiness. Both busyness and laziness can steal our peace. And in Luke 6, Jesus says real security comes when we actually live out His words, like building our life on a solid rock instead of shaky sand.So how do we find real rest? It’s not in doing nothing, and it’s not in wearing ourselves out trying to control everything. True rest comes from listening to Jesus, obeying Him, and trusting His foundation even when life feels overwhelming.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Rest vs. Laziness: How can you tell the difference between true rest that restores you and laziness that keeps you from growing (Proverbs 19:15)?2. Heart Check: Like the psalmist in Psalm 77:4, what things keep you up at night or make your heart restless? How can you bring those things honestly to God?3. Rock-Solid Living: What’s one area of your life where you need to actually do what Jesus says so your foundation is strong, like in Luke 6:46–48?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEReal rest comes from trusting Jesus, obeying His words, and building your life on the solid foundation of His truth.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for offering real rest for my heart and mind. Help me not to be lazy or restless, but to build my life on Your Word and trust You with the things that keep me up at night. Teach me to obey You and find peace in Your presence every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
