Queer All Year

June 23rd, "Free Speech?"

Listen Later

Hey everybody! Welcome back to a super frustrating episode of Queer All Year!
So today we're talking about the about the Webb City High School free speech scandal. Beginning in 2004, 16-year-old Brad Mathewson began being censored by his school for wearing shirts expressing himself with slogans such as "I'm gay and I'm proud." The school forced him to change and continued to discriminate against him while many other students continued to wear homophobic shirts with phrases such as "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." This is just the beginning of a terrible story of bullying perpetrated by the administration as well as students that led to Brad failing out and turning to drugs. As we've stated before, high school kids really can be the worst.
Thanks so much and remember: We Love You!
