no special date filled up
with bright window displays
little to lift my mood
along the way
nothing notable
foreseeable
or remarkable
that could make
my hours spent
closer to something
more phenomenal
Just some voices of children
in a sing song happy pattern
and the roar of a Harley as
it’s leaving from a tavern
across some windshield glass
that’s gleaming in the sun
from a wreck where
it lies shattered
like the love I felt for you
until it all no
longer mattered
cause I’ve got
nowhere I can go
so I just wander
empty streets
my life left incomplete
even the bright sun
doesn’t seem as sweet
or the fact that I don’t
need a mask to go
outside and breathe
Just an ordinary day
which is exactly
what I need
cause all the paths
from my sad past
lead back to you
so I’m walking fast
just to shed your memories
but still I bleed
love can be a disease
It’s former joy a tease
with nothing to appease me
on this ordinary day
as I make my way
to someone else
still wishing you had stayed
before me lies the tedious
and grievous task of finding
some new girl that I can trust
to share my heart
that’s emptied now
and filled up with the dust
of all I knew with you
only new love can
wipe it clean
and leave me finding
far more ways
to share extraordinary days
with someone who
won’t walk away
I know that love
will reappear
and lead me far
away from here
on this sad and ordinary day
which I hope and pray
will not be endless months
though which I’ll stray
while hopelessness
impedes my way
till love comes back to play.
I guess there’s nothing else to do
on this most boring ordinary day
then hike through all
the dreary weeks to come
without you….without you….

a terrible cost

It dies with a whimper
and not a roar
when all that was
before can be no more
and there is no door
that can take one back
to all they once adored
