There must be hundreds of books on how to draw, but one written in 1979 states a very new concept for its time. The author, Betty Edwards, is an American and her book, ”Drawing on the Right side of the Brain” is now translated into 17 languages and has sold thousands of copies. Although now an outdated concept, she writes of the human brain as having two parts, the right and the left. One side thinks in terms of things, of facts, of names, and the other thinks in terms of lines and shapes. Of course this is a simplification of the theory, but Elspeth finds it a real help in practice when she draws, and always turns her picture upside down, to draw it well.
