April 21st, 2026 - Happy feast of St. Anselm!

With a fragile ceasefire set to expire within days, President Donald Trump warned yesterday that “lots of bombs” will “start going off" if no agreement is reached. Tehran, meanwhile, has publicly cast doubt about whether it will attend the new round of talks at all. The Louisiana gunman who shot 8 children, 7 of them his own, has been identified as Shamar Elkins. He was 37 years old and was fatally shot at the end of a police chase. Family said he had called his mother on Easter Sunday in tears, warning that he was suicidal. A pro-life group is asking a California court to end the attack on the reversal to the abortion pill, given that the state has been unable to show harm. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRémer is leaving her position in the Trump admin; Keith Sonderling will take her place as Acting Labor Secretary. Cardinal Frank Leo of Toronto is calling on the Canadian Prime Minister to support legislation blocking euthanasia for those whose sole condition is mental illness. Euthanasia now accounts for 1 in every 20 deaths in Canada. Spain, Slovenia and Ireland have asked the European Union to discuss the suspension of its association treaty with Israel. Pope Leo is traveling today to Equatorial Guinea, the final stop on his apostolic visit to Africa.
