“Just Keep Moving” For Chattanooga’s MLK Week

In 1969, the year after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, The Unity Group was formed here in Chattanooga.

Over the decades, the group’s activists have pushed for Black candidates to win local elected office in this city and in Hamilton County, advocated for a national holiday for Dr. King - and more.

This year, because of the pandemic, the group has shifted to virtual for its annual King Week events - from last night’s event with the Tennessee Poor People’s Campaign through its march next Monday.

Reverend Charlotte S.N.N. Williams is vice chairperson of The Unity Group of Chattanooga - and Eric Atkins is corresponding secretary.
