• I've always been puzzled by people who hate having a birthday.  Life's circumstances have taught me to cherish every year.  

• My grandmother lived to be thirty-six, but did not get the opportunity to see any of her five children as adults.  

• My mother lived to be thirty-eight.  She never saw me graduate from college.  She never met my husband, her grandchildren, or her great grandchildren. 

• Both women were mothers briefly and never had a chance to be a grandmother.

• I am the first woman in three generations to hold both titles and I feel so fortunate.
