In five short months, Justin Volman has grown the Collegiate Baseball Scouting Network from five students covering five colleges to more than 50 students providing scouting reports on collegiate players throughout the country and in Canada. A junior at the University of Alabama, Volman has been featured in New York Sports Day and he and his company were recently profiled on the Hardball Times website. With thousands of college students wanting to enter the world of professional baseball through the front office, Volman and the Collegiate Baseball Scouting Network are giving students practical hands-on experience while also providing a service for a clientele that currently includes summer ball circuits and other amateur leagues. Volman plans to offer his services to teams in the major leagues, adding that he has no desire to replace scouts but instead provide another perspective on college players before teams decide to spend millions of dollars on signing bonuses.
