September 25, 2024 ~ Lucy Ann Lance talks with Justin Winslow, President & CEO, Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association. In 2025, Michigan’s hospitality industry faces significant challenges due to anticipated increases in the minimum wage and changes to paid leave laws. Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, expressed concern over the impact on local restaurants, especially those already struggling with post-COVID profitability and rising inflation. A court ruling will raise the minimum wage from $10.33 to $12.50 by February 2025 and gradually eliminate the tip credit, potentially harming tipped workers who rely on tips for income. This change may lead to reduced tipping percentages, as seen in states without a tip credit.
