Here are some shocking, but sadly, probably not surprising statistics: African American youth make up 30 percent of youth arrested, even though they are only 17 percent of the overall youth population in the U.S. Black youth make up 62 percent of young people prosecuted in the adult criminal system and are 9 times more likely to receive an adult prison sentence than white youth. There is something amiss in our juvenile justice system. On the next Another View, we'll talk about the system and ways to keep our young people out of prison with the Honorable Jerrauld Jones, Presiding Judge in Norfolk Circuit Court, and the Honorable Eileen Olds, Presiding Judge with Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Plus, a baseball great comes home to teach young people all about America's favorite pasttime.
