Two 11-year-old boys have separately been rescued from the rubble of collapsed buildings within hours of each other, after powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela.

 Officials have confirmed at least 1,430 deaths. Tens of thousands of people are still missing.

Despite the lack of diplomatic relations between Israel and Venezuela, a number of Israeli humanitarian and international development organizations quickly launched emergency relief efforts in response to the devastating earthquake.

 Drawing on long-established local partnerships, regional operations, and staff with dual citizenship, the organizations mobilized rapidly within hours of the disaster.

KAN's Mark Weiss  spoke with Ayelet Levin-Karp, CEO of SID Israel, the umbrella organization for Israel's humanitarian aid and international development community.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that Washington would not accept Iranian tolls or fees on the Strait of Hormuz, as disputes over the vital waterway exposed early strains in negotiations to end the Middle East war.

On Tuesday, Tehran and Oman said in a joint statement that they would study the administration of the trade route and the costs to be charged for services, while insisting on their sovereignty over the strait.

Rubio, opening a regional tour in the United Arab Emirates, said Washington would oppose any such move.

“It’s an international waterway. No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway,” he said, adding that he believed “all the countries in this region would agree”.

For the first time, adult volunteers from abroad will teach English in Gaza envelope communities through an initiative supporting schools and educational programs as the region continues to recover from the October 7 attacks. The project is part of the Elul organization's "Shnat Sherut 50 Plus", a national service model that enables mid-life and retired professionals to dedicate a year to strengthening Israel's most vulnerable regions.
