Meet The Changemakers

Kasha Sequoia Slavner - Using visual storytelling to make the world a better place

Listen Later

In this episode, I speak with Kasha Sequoia Slavner, a Gen-Z, multi-award-winning documentary filmmaker who comes to the profession as a seasoned photographer, social entrepreneur and social justice advocate for over a decade.

She was 8 when she first started her social justice journey and only 16 years old when she set out across the world for 6 months to make her first feature documentary “The Sunrise Storyteller.” She completed it upon returning to high school. Since its release in 2017, it has screened at over 60 festivals and won 29 awards, including the Ron Kovic Peace Prize as well as the Eva Haller, Women Transforming Media Award. Currently, Kasha is in development with her second feature documentary “1.5 Degrees of Peace'' which is fiscally sponsored by The Redford Center.

Using her passion for visual storytelling to make the world a better place, she was selected as the recipient of the very first Kim Phuc Youth Award for Peace. Among the many other awards and projects - there are too many to name here - she became a Diana Award Holder for sustaining positive social change, in the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales.

You can find Kasha at The Global Sunrise Project. She is also on Twitter and Instagram.
