After a 3 year absence, Kasper Bjørke returns to hfn music with his sublime new project Nothing Gold Can Stay. Having followed a deeply personal musical path that led to the development of the “Kasper Bjørke Quartet: The Fifty Eleven Project” on Kompakt Records, (named 5th Best Contemporary Album 2018 in The Guardian), Kasper returns to the outsider pop music that made his name.
Part A of Nothing Gold Can Stay contains four collaborations with four friends. The first one, Toby Ernest, resulted in “Water”, a beautiful opener to the EP that revives the partnership that was last seen in 2014’s After Forever album. Toby also provides the vocals on the inspired cover version of the Alessi Brothers’ Seabird - a track that came about through Kasper’s friendship and musical synergy with DJ and vinyl digger Christian d’Or. The version is respectful to the original but adds a distinct freshness that will see it win over an entirely new set of admirers.
Next up, Du Du Du features bassist Tomas Høffding (of WhoMadeWho and Bon Homme), who also delivers the exotic Danish vocals on this future disco anthem. His strong vocals bring out references to classic Danish disco pop time-warped from a different era, playfully enhanced by the synth wizardry of Kasper.
The fourth part of the EP features New York legend Justin Strauss reciting Robert Frost’s 1923 poem (the inspiration for the project) over a short instrumental piece - a beautiful and thoughtful way to round off the release.
