Kassidy Tran : Reimagining The Gap Year

Listen Later

As a society we truly thrive off structure and environments that are familiar and comfortable. So when asked the infamous question of "what are you doing after college," most young adults answer with either grad school or working a typical 9-5. But why were we all classically conditioned to follow the same path? Have you ever wondered what opportunities are out there for those who stray from the conventional path after college?

This week, we chat with Kassidy Tran, a 2019 Cal Poly graduate, about her spontaneous decision to take a gap year after college. After embarking on what was supposed to be a short trip before finding a full time job in San Francisco. Kassidy was inspired by the solo travelers she met along her journey and decided to cancel her flight home and continue traveling. She explored Southeast Asia, London and Australia, where she stayed to work as a barista on the Work & Holiday Visa. Her travel experiences have allowed her to explore and reassess her goals and the impact she wants to have within her line of work.

Tune in as we discuss the stigma of taking time off, cultural differences regarding work, and the growth that one can experience when taking a leap of faith.
