Wild Society: True Crime Podcast

Katherine Knight + Origins of Trick-or-Treating

Listen Later

Welcome to the third episode of Wild Society!

In 2000, Katherine Knight shocked the world from her little town of Aberdeen, Australia. Katherine stabbed, skinned and cooked her partner, John Charles Thomas Price. Katherine was found guilty and is the first woman in Australian history to be given life imprisonment with no chance of parole.

In part two of this episode, we hear about the shocking origins of trick-or-treating. For many children, nothing is as exciting as Oct. 31. On Halloween, millions of children dress up in costumes, go door-to-door and get free candy. But the history behind this mainstream tradition is not as innocent as you think. Riots, individual acts of violence and coordinated pranks by children eventually evolved into this now cherished pastime.
