I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Katherine Leamy. I’ve been following her on Instagram for a few months, and I really love her approach to lightweight travel and adventure. In this episode she shares her top tips for traveling light.   I’ve never thought of myself as a light traveler, but there have been several occasions in life where people have looked at my bag and been shocked at how little I was traveling with, so I guess I am!   In this episode, Katherine shares her top tips on what type of clothes and shoes to bring, and how to care for them. She also suggests testing your clothes before you go, which sounds like common sense, but is probably something a lot of people don’t think of. I certainly hadn’t thought of it for urban traveling clothes.   About Katherine Leamy Katherine Leamy is from New Zealand, and is a keen traveler with a passion for traveling light. At 49, Katherine bravely left her family at home, and decided she wanted to do something challenging. So, she travelled to Croatia and Italy, by herself, for 4 weeks, with a 5 kilo/ 11-pound day bag. Her mission is to show people how to pack less and stop struggling with overpacked luggage. She's also a keen solo traveler, where she loves her quiet time to explore and re-energize in the great outdoors. She shares her packing and solo travel knowledge on podcasts, media, social media and her website, The 5 Kilo Traveller. After 30 years of intense nursing, she is relishing doing something creative and just for fun. She is an advocate for women in their midlife to do what makes them happy. It doesn’t have to make money or even make sense to anyone else. By our 50s, we’ve earned the right to say how we live our lives. Her own solo trip gave her the confidence to tackle other challenges. Katherine says, “If I can travel light and solo for a month, what else can I do?” A free packing guide pdf is available on Katherine’s website once they sign up to her newsletter. There's some really useful information on where to start with packing lighter.   Katherine’s Links Website Instagram Facebook   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn Why packing light is especially important when you’re a solo traveler The benefits of packing light The basic rules of packing light How to create a travel capsule wardrobe Why solo travel is the ultimate in self-care   Things We Discussed Vaude Wizard 24+4 Hiking backpack  The Journey system from Idea Mountain  Storage Box  Milford Track in New Zealand    Related Episodes 447 Jen Ruiz ~ To Balance Travel and Adventure With a Full-Time Job 444 Ruksana Hussain ~ Adventures in Freelance Travel Writing 438 Jenny Mowbray ~ Solo Travel + Adventure When You're in a Relationship 383 Anne Malambo ~ How Solo Travel Can Change Our Lives (now with downloadable transcript!) 367 Holly Worton ~ Finding Yourself Through Solo Travel and Outdoor Adventures (now with downloadable transcript!)   Connect With Holly Website Facebook Instagram Twitter Pinterest Google+ LinkedIn   How to Subscribe Click here to subscribe via iTunes Click here to subscribe via RSS Click here to subscribe via Stitcher   Help Spread the Word If you enjoyed this episode, please head on over to iTunes and kindly leave us a rating and a review!
