Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Katie's life took a dramatic turn when her family moved to Kenya during her middle school years. This transition from a typical American suburban life to living in a Kenyan mud hut without modern conveniences like electricity and running water was a profound shift. She spent her high school years in an international boarding school in Kenya, which enriched her life with diverse
perspectives and experiences. This unique upbringing played a pivotal role in shaping her worldview, emphasizing the importance of relationships over materialism, a stark contrast to the consumerist culture she was accustomed to in the United States.
Katie faced the challenges of reverse culture shock upon returning to the United States. Despite these initial hurdles, her time at Notre Dame was transformative, particularly due to ND broadened her understanding of faith. She pursued a double major in Peace Studies and Marketing, a combination that reflected her diverse interests and experiences. Today, Katie works in Notre Dame's development office, where she blends her business acumen with her commitment to service and mission-driven work. Her story is a testament to the power of embracing change, the value of diverse cultural experiences, and the impact of education in shaping one's path in life.
