I’ve got a sunny disposition
I’m a warm-hearted guy
every solar rays my mentor
when it rises in the sky
and I find myself a wishing
all the other folks would try
filling up their hearts with sunshine
Because too many humans cry
angst is why too many die
But the sun it knows no seasons
it’s there to bless all of us
even when it’s dark and cloudy
it’s one sure thing we can trust.
and it makes us feel robust
We get up in the morning
savoring its lovely heat
and we go to bed soon after
it’s long journey is complete.
No one ever takes vacations
just to bathe beneath the moon
you won’t ever get a moon tan
you might as well stay in your room.
But we lie down and we worship
the sun with oils on our skin
like burnt offerings beneath it
we find joy in its tanning.
Every thing we have is blessed by
the warm rays that it exudes
it feeds trees that create oxygen
and it provides most of our foods.
As Earth’s biggest star,
it wows us
it’s a hot commodity
but its daily shows are free
entertaining every human
Hollywood can not compete.
it brings paintings from our maker
when it rises every morn
its pigments color every acre
with lotsa yellows, reds and orange.
And when it sets as night is falling
it can move our hearts to bliss
share its passing with your sweetheart
and you can bet you’ll get a kiss
it was a God to all the ancients
Neanderthals and Troglodytes
they would pray to its great powers
and dance beneath it with delight.
And there were times
when they grew fearful
that they had somehow angered it
as they watched it disappearing
but it was only an eclipse.
It taught us how to plan our days out
by using sundials….. men found time
sadly it brought us rush hours
but still the sun is quite divine.
And though it sometimes
gives us freckles
brown dots in
patterns on our face
the sun is also very speckled
with sunspots on
its orb in space
So if your feeling overheated
by it’s mid-August annual rage
just grab a book and
squeeze what’s fruitful
enjoy some shade and lemonade
We all know it
will vanish someday
and leave a cold
and empty planet
so share the warmth
it sheds with others
leave all your hate
and angst abandoned
and never take
the sun for granted…...
