Keeping Cotton Root Rot in Check: Grapes and Tree Nuts

Listen Later

For more than 120 years, cotton root rot has affected numerous U.S. crops — 2,300 to be specific — but has been particularly hard on permanent crops like almonds, grapes and pecans. Inflicting damage that ranges from significant yield loss to complete orchard or vineyard removal, cotton root rot has been and remains a threat to these operations due to the level of difficulty to manage it. But, in recent years, new tools, strategies and insights have emerged to aid growers’ campaigns to combat the pathogen. Listen in as Philip Northover, technical service manager for FMC, breaks down the fungal disease, including its effect on orchards and vineyards from California to Texas, indicators for early detection and fungicide options to curb and wrangle cotton root rot disease.
