Elly Gotz, graduate electronics engineer, pilot, businessman and author of “Flights of Spirit” tells his moving story of surviving the Holocaust, choosing love over hate and living life to the fullest - including skydiving at age 82!

Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, Elly spent his teenage years in a Nazi Ghetto in Kaunas and later in concentration camp Dachau, Germany, where he was liberated in 1945 by the American army. 

After the war he lived in Germany, Norway, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Elly came with his family to Canada in 1964 and now lives in Toronto.

In December 2025 Elly was honoured with the Order of Canada.

In this heart-warming episode, Jeff talks to Fadi Dekaidek, an Arab Muslim from Beit Hanina in East Jerusalem and learns his incredible story about becoming part of Israel's emergency medical system, Magen David Adom (MDA). When Jewish medics from MDA were saving the life of Fadi's father, Sameer, Sameer's words to his son changed the trajectory of his life: ‘I want from you one thing: to be like these people, to learn to save lives, to live like the Israeli community. You know the Jewish people; they are good people. If I’m still alive, I want to see you like them: a good man.”  Fadi went on to become the first Arab from East Jerusalem to join MDA and has saved countless lives ever since. The light he has brought back into his community in East Jerusalem is inspiring.  And the incredible community of Jews, Muslims and Christians that work on his team tells a different and hopeful narrative that contradicts what mainstream Media conveys.

He is also Founder and Executive Board Chairman of the Joseph Project International (josephproject.org), the humanitarian arm of the MJAA responsible for providing more than $170 million worth of humanitarian aid to Israel. The Joseph Project International is the largest importer of humanitarian aid in the state of Israel.

Chernoff is also Board Chairman of MJAA Ethiopian Relief (www.mjaaer.org), caring for and advocating for the final exodus of the Ethiopian Jews to Israel. In 2024, the Ethiopian government recognized it as one of top three non-government organizations (NGOs) in the country.

Founder and Board Chairman of Alliance for Israel Advocacy (www.israeladvocates.org); and Executive Secretary of International Messianic Jewish Alliance (www.theimja.org), encompassing national Alliances in 18 countries.
