Today is August 3, 2016. Travel back with me to this day in 1921. We’re in Chicago, maybe enjoying a little prohibition-style bathtub gin because the mood here is festive following the acquittal of eight Chicago White Sox players indicted on conspiracy charges for their role in the 1919 World Series scandal. But the mood is about to change as word spreads that Federal Judge and Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis has laid a lifetime ban on all eight men.
