On May 4th, 1970, after the governor of Ohio announced that student antiwar protesters were “worse than Nazis” and the governor of California – Ronald Reagan – called for a “bloodbath,” Ohio National Guardsmen opened fire with live ammunition on the Kent State University campus, killing four and wounding nine.
