Confessions and Ramblings of a Functioning Psychotic

Ketamine

Listen Later

This is episode 29: Ketamine!

For many years, ketamine use outside of medical facilities was rampant in club settings by younger people looking to get high.  Known as "special K," snorting ketamine gave users a sedated version of euphoria unlike any other mind altering substance.  Not inherently dangerous or expensive, it became very popular.  But there were certainly no medicinal benefits in those settings.  The past decade or so, many proponents of ketamine as a therapeutic aide have been dedicating lots of time and money towards bringing ketamine therapy to the mainstream.  Sam Mandel and his father started Ketamine Clinics of Los Angeles, one of the first to open in the US in 2014.  Sam takes us on his journey and explains the extreme benefits of ketamine therapy.

Here are just some of the things Sam discusses with Parrish:

The therapy is excellent for an array of mental health issues
The difference between psilocybin therapy and ketamine therapy
Ketamine is legal in all states for medical purposes
Ketamine therapy has an 83% success rate at Sam's clinics
The difference between ketamine as a medicine and Special K, the party drug
