Jodi Barrett had just come through being separated from her partner of 15 years and being a stay-at-home mom when she realized she needed a change. She had three young children, and she needed to be strong, but she also needed to find her passion. After giving the last 13 years to her children & nothing to herself, she to find her place in this world. She needed to create something that was all her own because she had crashed.

A friend introduced her to kettlebells. She loved the feeling of the kettlebell in her hands. The weight. The balance. Her entire body engaged and present. Then another interesting opportunity crossed her path: she started working out at a local Muay Thai kickboxing gym. She loved the martial arts aspect. Jodi believes that if we keep our eyes and our heart open we remain open to things that intersect. And this was one of those moments.

Despite being a prairie girl – born and raised in Saskatchewan bugging her Dad on the tractor whenever she could, she took a trip to New York to meet with someone about bringing Kettlebell Kickboxing to Canada, and it was the best decision she’s ever made. Today, she’s certified to train Kettlebell Kickboxing trainers across Canada…and she’s the sole franchisee for all of Canada for Kettlebell Kickboxing.

The best part of this? One day, one of her girls said to her, “Mom, I have something to tell you…”

Oh no, she thought. What is it?

“Mom, I want to thank you. I really like myself. And you taught me how to like myself.”

Jodi’s one piece of advice is this: If you are lost stop searching and just BE. Listen to the whisper within you that tells you what feels right. Grow your inner strength as it will carry you forward and make you strong on the outside and Dream Big!
