There is growing confidence that people would support a local online viewing subscription.

TVNZ is considering offering online viewers a paid, advertising-free subscription next year while retaining the current on-demand but with ad option.

CEO Kevin Kenrick told Mike Hosking there is a growing number of viewers willing to pay for content.

"What TVNZ needs to do is play to its strength, which is definitely the local content we produce."
