Last week, I explained that as we embark on our quest to reignite the American spirit, we must begin by asking why it is critically important for America to exist at all. This question speaks to our shared beliefs about the very idea of America, which is important because ideas create inspiration for action. Today, I’ll open my explanation and exploration of what I see as the idea of America with the first of a multi-part short story I’m calling The Story of the Hill. In subsequent letters, I’ll unpack more of the nuance I hope my story reveals.
