From January 21 to April 8, 1968, the Battle of Khe Sanh raged as elements of the III Marine Amphibious Force were surrounded on the jungle hilltop known as Khe Sanh Combat Base. Close air support and aerial resupply were critical factors enabling the Marines to survive the 77 day encirclement by enemy forces.
