On today’s podcast we’ll discuss the following:

▶ General News: Amazon significantly expanded its army of warehouse robots over the course of 2016, according to a report by The Seattle Times. Wikileaks promised that 2017 will be an even bigger year for leaks than 2016. More Americans continue to label themselves as conservative than as moderate or liberal. However, the liberal percentage has been growing, mainly at the expense of moderates.

▶ Economics: U.S. construction spending rose more than expected in November, reaching its highest level in 10-1/2 years, which could provide a lift to fourth-quarter economic growth. Ford is canceling plans to build a new plant in Mexico. It will invest $700 million in Michigan instead, creating 700 new U.S. jobs. Stocks are up 230 percent since March 2009. The Federal Reserve hiked interest rates just two weeks ago for the second time in a decade, but it will soon be cutting them again, said Jim Rickards.

▶ Global Issues: U.S. unilateralism under Donald Trump, China’s growing assertiveness and a weakened German Chancellor Angela Merkel will make 2017 the “most volatile” year for political risk since World War II, according to Eurasia Group. Russia developing carrier-based drones, will get 100 new Navy aircraft by 2020. Taiwan’s Defense Minister warned of increased threats from rival China a day after Beijing’s first aircraft carrier was detected sailing across the East China Sea. China to put missiles on S China Sea man-made islands to guard airstrips.
