On this episode, we sat down with the team behind Kicks for CHiPS an annual high school soccer tournament in Brooklyn that’s using the game to make a real impact off the field. Founded by Saint Ann’s students Repin Minoff, Leif Moen, and Dempsey Gonya, Kicks for CHiPS brings together players from across the borough for a competitive 5v5 double-elimination tournament, all while raising money for CHiPS (Community Help in Park Slope), a nonprofit that has supported the Gowanus community for more than 50 years.
We talked about how the tournament came together, building community through soccer, and what it means to create something bigger than the game itself. With this year’s tournament taking place on May 31st in Brooklyn, the episode dives into the energy behind the event, the people making it happen, and why initiatives like this matter so much for the next generation of players and leaders.
A great conversation about soccer, community, and using sport as a force for good.
